Celebrate Songwriting in the Heart of Gatlinburg at the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival

May 20, 2026 | Attractions, Festivals, Music, Special Events, Things to do

What’s the best way to hear a song? Up close, face to face, surrounded by stories, laughter, and the people who wrote it.

That’s exactly what makes the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival such a unique experience.

Held inside the historic Gatlinburg Inn, this intimate festival brings some of Nashville’s most accomplished songwriters directly into the heart of the Smokies for a weekend filled with live performances, storytelling, songwriting workshops, co-writing opportunities, and late-night jam sessions that often become the moments people remember most.

Unlike massive music festivals where you’re staring at a stage from hundreds of feet away, the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival is intentionally personal. Guests spend the weekend inside one of Gatlinburg’s most iconic landmarks listening to hit songwriters perform the songs they’ve written for country music’s biggest artists – while also hearing the stories behind how those songs came to life.

And because the festival takes place inside the Historic Gatlinburg Inn, ticket availability is limited. That intimate atmosphere is part of what makes the experience so special, but it also means tickets tend to disappear quickly. If you’re thinking about attending, purchasing early is highly recommended.

More Than Just Concerts

General Admission tickets include access to songwriter performances featuring Nashville writers with multiple hit songs to their credit. These shows aren’t just performances – they’re conversations, storytelling sessions, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into Music Row creativity.

But for aspiring songwriters and musicians, the festival goes even deeper.

One of the standout experiences is the Songwriting Seminar, an intimate panel session limited to just 15 attendees. Participants have the chance to sit with successful Nashville songwriters and ask questions about the craft of songwriting, radio-ready material, overcoming writer’s block, and what truly makes a song connect with listeners.

Attendees are encouraged to bring notebooks, questions, and even songs of their own for feedback and discussion.

For those wanting an even more hands-on experience, the festival also offers exclusive “Write a Hit with a Hit Songwriter” sessions.

These closed professional co-writing sessions are limited to only seven songwriters per professional writer, creating a rare opportunity to collaborate directly with some of Nashville’s hitmakers in a real songwriting environment.

Current featured co-writing sessions include:

  • Steve Dean (“Watching You” by Rodney Atkins)
  • Danny Wells (“These Days” by Rascal Flatts)
  • Dana Black (“Check Yes or No” by George Strait)

Spots for these sessions are extremely limited and will fill quickly.

The Magic Happens After Hours

Ask almost anyone who has attended the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival before, and they’ll probably tell you the same thing: some of the best moments happen after the official schedule ends.

Late-night jams inside the Inn and on our front porch have become part of the festival’s identity. Songwriters gather with guitars and other instruments, guests pull up chairs, and spontaneous performances unfold in the relaxed atmosphere of the Historic Gatlinburg Inn.

It feels less like a formal festival and more like being invited into a private songwriter gathering in the Smoky Mountains.

That atmosphere is difficult to replicate anywhere else.

A Perfect Smoky Mountain Weekend

The Historic Gatlinburg Inn has long been connected to the songwriting community and remains one of the most beloved landmarks in downtown Gatlinburg. Hosting the festival inside the Inn adds authenticity and warmth that larger venues simply can’t provide.

When they’re not participating in the festival, guests can spend the day exploring Gatlinburg, enjoying mountain views, restaurants, and attractions.

Whether you’re an aspiring songwriter, a lifelong country music fan, or simply someone who appreciates great storytelling, the Gatlinburg Songwriters Festival offers a one-of-a-kind Smoky Mountain experience.

But remember: capacity is limited, and many of the specialty sessions only allow a handful of participants.

If this sounds like your kind of weekend, don’t wait too long to secure your tickets.
