The year is 1937, 3 years away from the park officially being dedicated at Newfound Gap, and the tourism industry of the Smoky Mountains are virtually at their infancy compared to the city today. The stops are few, the roads even fewer, but the magic and majesty of the Smokies attracts enough people from out of town and even further away to come visit. Although before this date in time visitors would find it very difficult to find accommodations overnight, this year a well respected institution that would become an icon of city history would be built.
Yes, we’re talking about the Historic Gatlinburg Inn on the downtown Gatlinburg parkway. Our foundation started eight decades ago and we have been providing for every generation of visitor since then, as well as many of their descendants!
