Howard’s Restaurant is a Gatlinburg staple, having served fine food to visitors and residents of Gatlinburg since 1946. That makes it Gatlinburg’s oldest restaurant, pairing nicely with your stay at Gatlinburg’s oldest hotel.
It has been voted best steaks and burgers in the Smokies. It is one of the best, most intimate settings in town, and is located right on Parkway. It is a pleasant walk of about a third of a mile from the front porch of the Historic Gatlinburg Inn.
Howard’s is known for its steaks and has a nice selection, from chopped steak to porterhouse and bone-in filet on the high end. All steaks are cut and prepared on site and the quality is top notch.
On the day we were there, it was lunchtime so we went with something just a little lighter than steak – the hot roast beef sandwich. The sandwich consists of slow-cooked sliced roast beef, served on toast points, smothered in brown mushroom gravy with mashed potatoes. The sandwich was fantastic! The meat was tender and perfectly cooked. Howard’s is not cheap with the gravy either, with plenty to smother the roast beef and potatoes.
Howard’s is located in a renovated 100 year old building and is beautifully situated with a patio area overlooking a stream running through town. On the day we were there, it was too cold to sit outside, but this would be an awesome place to enjoy a meal during the warmer months.
If you are in the mood to sit at the bar and have a few drinks, Howard’s bar is well-stocked and has a really cool vibe.
