The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is Gatlinburg’s newest eatery and a MUST-VISIT if you’re a milkshake fan.
The shop uses more than 100 ingredients total to make its creations, which combine ultra high quality ice cream with any kind of topping you can think of: whole ice cream bars, hard candies, cookies, cinnamon rolls, fruits and much more. Each shake is jam-packed with ingredients that cascade into the air high above the rim of the glass. I honestly don’t see how some of these things even stay together.
We had the “Build Me Up Buttercup,” that combines peanut butter ice cream with various other peanut or chocolate-flavored toppings, including whole peanut butter cups; and “Cow Jumped Over the Moon,” that combines coffee-flavored ice cream a whole moon pie and other chocolate ingredients. They were both amazing. The shop has a slogan that says “where the calories don’t count.” Good thing!
The milkshakes are about $15. Each shake comes served in a high quality glass mason jar with silkscreened graphics. And you get to take it home! The shop has a cleaning station that you can use to wash out the jar. That’s a pretty good deal.
The bad? The Crazy Mason is hard to get into. Your reviewer and his party stood in line for roughly an hour to get into the shop and up to the counter to place an order. You can get a regular milkshake here, but in our opinion it would not be worth the effort for that. There is literally a Baskin Robins right across the street that you can walk into with no wait. So if you’re not wanting to get one of their custom creations, then we would not recommend the wait.
Also, if you don’t like kids (or, specifically, the noise they make)…then this might not be your place at times. Our party was fairly near the beginning of the line, but by the time we got through the door, children had scattered to fill every table (except the one we were lucky to snag) and there was a definite noisy buzz about the place.
The Crazy Mason Milkshake Bar is located at:
812 Parkway, Suite 106
Gatlinburg, TN
It is a VERY short walk from the Historic Gatlinburg Inn – across the street and up about a block – right next to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Museum.
Currently, due to the labor shortage striking Gatlinburg (just like the rest of America), the Crazy Mason is open limited days and hours of the day. That is obviously a major factor contributing to the long lines to get into the place. But if you’re determined to find the best milkshake you’ve ever had, and you have an hour or so to spare, then it is worth the effort!
